Red Wine Discoveries
A number of lesser known red wine varietals are offered here.
Merlot
These Merlot grapes ripen fairly early and have lower tannins. High-quality Merlot wines are medium to dark red in color, rich, with fruit characteristics of black currant, cherry and mint.
Pinot Noir
This Pinot Noir when young, exhibits simple fruit flavors of cherries, plums, raspberries and strawberries. With age, Pinot’s flavors lengthen into chocolate, game, figs, prunes, truffles and violets.
Cabernet Sauvignon
Our dark Cabernet Sauvignon wines are rich in color, aroma and depth. They age well and are smooth to the palate, with distinctive spice-accented, long-lasting flavors.
Zinfandel
This Zinfandel is considered France's red-wine grape because it's not widely grown in other parts of the world. It is a hearty, robust red with berrylike, spicy, even peppery flavors.
Syrah
These Syrah wines are deep-colored and show strong tar, spice and pepper qualities. Syrahs slowly take on characteristics of sweet blackberries, black currants and plums.
